Efficient production of large print documents for schools, agencies for the blind, and other organizations

VisiPrint is a new software application that works in conjunction with MS Word, RTF, PowerPoint handouts, and Excel documents. It is specifically designed to assist schools, agencies, and other organizations in easily preparing large print documents for presentation to users with visual impairment. VisiPrint allows for the creation of a database that stores visual preferences for font type, style, and point size for any number of visually impaired end-users. In those formats listed above, it also features the option of acting like a CCTV, and can present any document in reverse contrast format with white text on black background.

Once a document is selected for processing, choosing any number of names from the database queues that document for printing at the preferred settings of each user. This allows the document to be quickly batch processed for all selected users.

MINIMIZE THE COST AND LABOR OF "MANUAL" LARGE PRINT DOCUMENT PRODUCTION

Up until now, no software application has been available that stores visual preferences and automatically processes text documents for visually impaired end users. In education/rehabilitation settings, it has usually been necessary to enlarge documents individually at a copy machine to the "approximate" preferred size of the end user. Although ADA law requires this type of accommodation, this process has proven to be labor-intensive, costly, and inefficient. Often only one "large print" size is made and given to ALL visually impaired students, regardless of whether or not that size meets the need of each student.

As teachers of the Blind will readily admit, students with vision loss often receive their large print classroom materials much later than their sighted peers. Using VisiPrint, large print accommodations for low vision students can be made with high efficiency, eliminating both the labor time and cost of the old system of manual copying and enlarging. Additionally, VisiPrint will consistently meet the exact visual preferences specified by the student/consumer.

HOW CAN VISIPRINT BE OF BENEFIT TO SCHOOLS AND AGENCIES?

In Public or Private Schools

As visually impaired students move through their education, they change classrooms, instructors, and schools. These students need all of their reading materials: Le., exams, homework assignments, book chapters, etc., modified and presented in a large print format. VisiPrint ensures that visual materials are processed efficiently and at the preferred point and font size for EACH INDIVIDUAL. Using VisiPrint, any teacher who can open a Microsoft Word document can also easily and quickly prepare appropriate large print materials for their visually impaired students.

At The University Level. For "Offices For Students With Disabilities"

College and university offices for students with disabilities are faced with modifying a tremendous amount of printed material for their visually impaired students. Again, the same labor-intensive manual procedure has been the rule. Universities need to prepare everything from orientation materials for incoming freshman, to a full range of classroom and reading materials throughout the students' university careers. In these environments, VisiPrint can efficiently deliver appropriate large print materials to all students with vision loss.

For Rehabilitation Agencies, State Schools and Agencies for The Blind and Visually Impaired. For Organizations that Provide Services for the Aging

In the above listed environments, the need to prepare printed materials in an appropriate, accessible format is a matter of routine. Assessment materials, weekly class schedules, IWRP's, newsletters, correspondence between counselors and clients, and a full range of other visual materials needs to be regularly prepared for students, for the geriatric population, and for others with vision impairments, etc. All of these materials can be prepared efficiently and easily. More importantly, they can be printed in a format that meets the exact visual needs and preferences of the individual clients.

Features

Database: VisiPrint facilitates the creation of a database that stores the visual preferences for font type, size, and style for any number of users.

Easy, Immediate Visual Access: VisiPrint makes it possible to produce printed materials to visually impaired students efficiently and easily. All information is formatted and word-wrapped automatically.

Batch: VisiPrint allows for any number of users to be selected, or "batched", from the database and applied to the chosen document. Once selected, VisiPrint automates the printing of those documents with the preferred font and point sizes of those users.

Display Names: When "batching" documents for multiple end-users, VisiPrint features a menu option that prints the name of each student at the beginning of each document, allowing easy subsequent dissemination of materials

Reverse Contrast: Visually impaired students with extreme light sensitivity are sometimes unable to read black text on a white background. VisiPrint can act as a CCTV using a feature that allows documents to be saved ir reverse contrast format, and at the preferred font and point size of the user. Using this feature, documents can be viewed on any PC with white text on a black background.

Preview: Once "batched", any document selected for presentation can be previewed before printing. Should any editing of the document be desired, it can be done directly in MS Word.
